Math Challenge

This page was last updated on October 7, 2021

Math Challenge is an optional math enrichment extension to the Math Adventures program at Wilder. It is designed to give students opportunities to sharpen their mathematical problem-solving skills.

There is no registration or fee required for this program. This is a great opportunity for families to be involved and to enjoy math through fun and engaging math problems. We encourage parents and siblings to get involved in discussing and solving them.

Throughout the challenges, the program covers problem solving strategies such as draw a picture or model, make an organized list, look for a pattern, working backward, and guess and check.  Each challenge presents 10-18 problems.  The first half of the problems are suitable for younger students (K-3).  The problems in the challenges increase in the level of difficulty.  Each Math Challenge will indicate the minimum number of correct solutions for each grade level.

Students and parents can review some problem solving tips on the Math in Action website:  https://www.mathinaction.org/problem-solving-strategies.htm
